Hello, Lu here!
I am an illustrator/author based in Riga who loves combining traditional media and has a soft spot for projects that revolve around memories, identity and mental health.
Originally from Latvia, I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2018 after getting a BA in Psychology from a tiny college in Iowa. Though I had always loved drawing, it took a while to find my way back to it. I spent years working in food service and specialty coffee while dreaming of projects I would love to bring to life. Like a story about a kid that experiences an anxious decision making process during a miraculous forest walk, or one about a butterfly escape mission, or one about discovering a time farm in a clover field.
While in Portland, I went to the Pacific Northwest College of Art to study illustration, and also learned to bury myself in my sketchbooks. I love drawing moss covered fir trees and decorative architecture—especially if there are statues and trimmings involved. But most of all, I love drawing people doing everyday things like walking their dog, playing music, or sitting in the park and feeding pigeons. There is so much magic in the seemingly mundane.
