Hello, Lu here!

I am an illustrator and writer who loves mixing traditional media and has a soft spot for projects that revolve around childhood, memories, identity, and mental health.

Originally from Latvia, I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2018 after getting a BA in Psychology from a tiny college in Iowa. I have always loved drawing, but it took a while to find my way back to it. I spent years working in food service and specialty coffee while dreaming of projects I would love to bring to life like a story about a kid that experiences an anxious decision making process during a miraculous forest walk, or a series of images depicting a butterfly escape mission, or a triptych of portraits.

While in Portland, I went to the Pacific Northwest College of Art to study illustration and make those projects a reality. I learned to bury myself in my sketchbooks and I have been filling up book after book ever since. I love drawing moss covered fir trees. And decorative architecture—especially if there are statues and trimmings involved. And clothes with draped fabric and folds. But most of all, I love drawing people doing everyday things like walking their dog, playing music, sitting in the park and feeding the pigeons, running, or cooking dinner. I see so much magic in the seemingly mundane.

If you like these things too then let me know. I am open to all sorts of projects and love learning about new things.
